Spherical olive
I watched last night's Top Chef episode to learn that the show's token Italian won the "challenge" (make lunch at Craft) with a beef carpaccio with a fancy schmancy "spherical olive" - that is, olive puree molecularized back into the shape of an olive. But, of course, putting aside the fact that the carpaccio was not very original and easy, the much vaunted olive was just a bald faced copy of Adria's signature garnish. New American, as the judges kept saying? Not quite.

who are the judges on that show? i have watched it a couple of times but i can't recall. i wasn't very impressed with the show i have to say, but that's just me, i don't like reality tv.
The judges are padma lakshi (sp?), Tom Collichio (who is actually credible, of course, as owner of Craft) and Gail Simmons of Food & Wine, plus a guest judge (usually a chef, but last night a restaurateur - I forgot her name, but Donatella something or other - she works on a number of places that are pretty trendy now).
Padma Lakshmi, ex-wife of Salman Rushdie and a former model. I think she is supposed to be the "exotic" element.
Credible judges then. Is the show good? Maybe i should give it another chance...
