I've been looking for Sifer's Valomilks (a famous but regional candy) ever since I read Candy Freak two years ago. Today, finally, victory! While I was looking for Agar Agar at Wholefoods Columbus Circle, I ran into a whole display of Valomilks, piled six foot high. I set aside my plans to buy sea salt, grabbed four packages, and ran at a half waddle, half sprint back to my office to crunch into the dribbly, marshmallowy deliciousness. In the first picture, you can see the characteristic leakage of marshmallow filling from the hand filled valomilks, which never achieve the perfect, antiseptic seal of a Reese's peanut butter cup. And in the second, well, you can see why they say, When it runs down your chin, you know it’s a VALOMILK.” .

I have never heard of such thing! Where is it from? It looks soooo... gooey?
It is extremely gooey, and from Kansas, originally. Is it Valrhona chocolate? Of course not. But delicious, and much better than the commercial candy bars one normally gets.
Ooh -- I'll have to look for those when I go through Columbus Circle tomorrow. I've been avoiding Whole Foods lately because I got a Fresh Direct delivery pass. But it's too difficult to predict when a Biglaw associate will be able to come home for dinner, so perhaps I'm better off getting fresh groceries (as opposed to packaged stuff) only when I know I'll be cooking dinner.
It doesn't require refrigeration and doesn't have the scary chemical smell of a Tastykake. Lives up to the hype!
