Delicatessen
What kind of people go to restaurants like Delicatessen, which Frank Bruni gave zero stars today? I'd wonder why he was reviewing it, except that restaurant reviewers have an obligation to review popular places, but deep fried "rueben" fritters? Cheeseburger spring rolls? Fried chicken in a metal pail? It sounds like deli food interpreted by a drunken Scotsman recently laid off from a failing chippy.

I thought Bruni gave a fairly good description of the kind of people who go there: ages 20-35, renters not owners, getting their idea of where to go in NYC from TV and magazines, out late at night, able to eat like this because either they normally live on salads and go to the gym religiously, or they're going to throw it up in the bathroom.
This frying of stuff is getting pretty disgusting, though. We tried Volstead for drinks the other night and they had fried mac-and-cheese on a stick, which sounds like something you should get only at the Iowa state fair. I like mac-n-cheese very well; frying it is stupid.
A dish of short ribs stroganoff was blandly seasoned, too heavy on the egg noodle and too light on the short rib.
This sounds exactly like the kind of food I got at college.
Ovaltine pudding parfait
This sounds like something even the lunch ladies wouldn't inflict.
sounds disgusting... ovalting pudding parfait... what??
